Stress & Anxiety

Unconscious psychological trauma rules our nervous systems. Chronic internal stress management comes at a deep cost to our physical health. You have the innate capacity to move quickly back to a state of presence and appropriately respond to stress and anxiety.

“Our bodies can move freely from a natural helpful stress response to support stressful situations that we need to respond physically and emotionally. We have an innate capacity to move quickly back to a state of presence and linked cognitive functioning to respond rationally and appropriately to the situation at hand.

Polyvagal theory, the work of Dr. Steven Porges, also explains our social engagement system in this way. Mental and physical illness, disease, and dysfunction happen when we are in a chronic state of functional freeze, with one foot on the gas and the other on the brakes in the functioning of our bodies. Psychological trauma is when the split is indeed split and will remain so unless we take that step to enquire and take our lives seriously enough to want to live from a place of autonomy and agency.
