Discover what Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is from an article published in the Limerick Leader on Deirdre’s in-person clinic in Adare.
“The experience of attending for treatment with Deirdre Kennedy, craniosacral therapist at Adare Craniosacral Therapy Clinic is unique. Ease of mind and heart, comfort and reassurance for whole body and mind health is a core value of the clinic ethos.
WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a hands-on therapy originating in osteopathy from the 1900’s. People of all ages attend for treatment with presenting issues such as accumulated stress and anxiety, nerve and chronic pain, immune system issues, self-awareness and connection and so much more. CST places emphasis on the craniosacral system, which includes cerebrospinal fluid and its encasing dural membrane, which connects the brain to the base of the spine. CST is a system of evaluation and treatment techniques that focuses on listening, enhancing movement and flow of cerebrospinal fluid and releasing a build-up of overwhelm and physical tension patterns in the soft tissue structures that surround the brain and the spinal cord. Our bodies keep the score. The craniosacral system, which houses the central nervous system, directly influences the autonomic nervous system and reflects how we are in life including all trauma experiences, whether shock trauma, loss trauma, birth trauma or physical and emotional trauma.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY FOR BABIES AND MOTHERS
Deirdre specialises in (pre) pregnancy to support women wanting to conceive naturally . Deirdre recommends CST as soon as possible after birth too. CST helps release residual shock and compressions for the baby and mum. It helps reconnect a loss of connection that can happen during the birth process and connect mum and baby on a deep level. CST empowers mum and dad to know their own intuition. Love and connection is the key to offering solutions and options to unsettled babies.

-
- Relieving tension inside the baby’s mouth, which may cause suction that is off centre, too strong/weak, painful, or a suck that is intermittent.

WHAT ’S INVOLVED IN A CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY TREATMENT?
You fill out your case history online whuch you receive with a booking confirmation e mail. Details of the conception, pregnancy and birth, including previous miscarriages and own birth history can be relevant. Your baby is evaluated for stress and strains in the craniosacral system affecting normal body functions., as well as places of emotional repression from their births. It is a hands-on treatment involving holding the baby and evaluating and treating suck, mobility and level of stress in the body. Most parents describe watching their babies ‘melt like butter’ while receiving a treatment. They may see their baby truly relax and stretch for the first time. This is such a relief to parents who can be challenged and frustrated knowing their babies are not ‘themselves’. How often should I expect to take my baby for Craniosacral Therapy? This definitely depends on the baby and the issues he/she is presenting. Most babies may only need to be seen for 2-3 treatments.”
